Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., says some communities — including ones within the United States — have no other option than to riot if they are marginalized.
In a radio interview with New York's Hot 97 on Tuesday, the freshman progressive lawmaker spoke about the conflicts in Israel.
The remarks begin about 30-minute mark.
"Once you have a group that is marginalized, once someone doesn't have access to clean water, they have no choice but to riot," she said.
"I'm not even talking about Palestinians," she added. "I'm talking about communities in poverty in the United States, I'm talking about Latin America, I'm talking about all over the world."
Ocasio-Cortez said "social destabilization is what happens when people do not have a plan or feel like there's no vision for their future."
Ocasio-Cortez sparked arguments with conservatives opposed to her comments referring to the facilities as "concentration camps" — language an Antifa follower used in a manifesto before his July 13 attack on a privately owned but ICE-operated detention facility in Tacoma, Washington.
In her Tuesday interview, Ocasio-Cortez she said her comments about the detention facility were "just amplifying what other people were saying."
