Another American citizen, who is alleged to have been an ISIS fighter, has been brought from Syria to the U.S. to face trial, CNN is reporting.
The news network attributed the information to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
The sources said the unidentified man is a U.S.-Turkish national. He had been held by U.S. backed Syrian Democratic Forces., who currently have in custody about 2,000 foreign ISIS fighters from over 50 counties.
Fifty-nine Americans are believed to have gone overseas to join ISIS, CNN reported. More than a dozen faced terror-related charges after coming back to the U.S. voluntarily or through repatriation., according to research by the George Washington University Program on Extremism. Many of the others are believed to have been killed in action,
The Justice Department declined to comment on the CNN report.
Meanwhile two Arizona men — one a Somali refugee and the other a Somali native and legal U.S. resident — who allegedly wanted to join ISIS were arrested in Tucson and charged with conspiring to provide material support to the terror group, federal officials said Monday.
