Poll: Majority of Americans Say Feds Would Keep Aliens a Secret

Most Americans think the government would try to keep it secret if there was any contact with an alien species, a new poll shows.

In the YouGov survey released Thursday, 55 percent of Americans think the government would try to hide such contact with alien life, 19 percent thought the government would tell the public about such contact, and 26 percent were not sure.

The poll found 12 percent of respondents think the government has already made contact with aliens, but is covering it up.

Republicans were more likely to be skeptical: 61 percent said the government would keep alien contact a secret; 51 percent of Democrats agree.

The poll also found Americans were unsure if aliens would be friendly; 29 percent suspecting they would be, 19 percent suspected they would be hostile.
