The majority of Americans are confident FBI special counsel Robert Mueller will conduct a fair investigation as his team continues to probe whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.

Key results in a new poll from the Pew Research Center:

  • 61 percent of Americans are very confidant or somewhat confident Mueller's investigation will be fair.
  • 48 percent said Russia's meddling in the election did not help either candidate in the 2016 presidential election.
  • 43 percent said it helped President Donald Trump's campaign, while 4 percent said it helped Hillary Clinton's campaign.
  • 42 percent said it is very or somewhat likely the Trump administration will make a serious effort to help prevent Russian meddling in future U.S. elections.
  • 36 percent said it is not likely at all the Trump administration will do enough in that regard.
  • 58 percent said it was likely senior members of the Trump administration had some type of improper contact with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee announced earlier this week they have seen no evidence that would suggest the Trump campaign worked with the Russians to help defeat Clinton. There is still an ongoing investigation in the Senate Intelligence Committee, along with the Mueller probe that is being conducted at the Department of Justice.
