Immigration officials will be going door-to-door to collect three-year legal residency cards granted after a federal judge issued an injunction against President Barack Obama's executive actions allowing them, The Washington Times reports.

Any who don't turn their cards in will have them terminated by July 31, the Times reports, citing a statement from the National Immigrant Justice Center.

The deadline was imposed by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen, who blocked Obama's executive actions on February 16. As part of Hanen's ruling, no cards were supposed to have been issued until the case was resolved, but White House lawyers admitted they had been approving applications immediately after Obama's actions in November and the number was at about 100,000.

It was later learned that 2,100 applications were approved even after the judge issued his injunction at one point, then even later another 500 were discovered.

If all the cards cannot be retrieved by the deadline, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson may be required to appear before the judge to explain.

The administration unsuccessfully sought a stay of the judge's order in the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans in May and tried again last week.

The case was filed by 26 states who say Obama doesn't have the authority to grant amnesty to up to 5 million undocumented immigrants.
