President Donald Trump on Monday pointed to the fatal Amtrak train derailment in Washington state as a reason to get an infrastructure plan "approved quickly."

The tweet was the president's first about the derailment near Tacoma, Washington, that has claimed the lives of an untold amount of passengers and/or crew.

Trump followed up 10 minutes later with a tweet aimed at the victims.

Law enforcement has said nearly 80 people were transported to hospitals but has not yet given an official count of those killed in the maiden trip of a new route through Washington.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The derailment occurred on the first day Amtrak trains began using a new inland route between the cities of Tacoma and Olympia, part of a $180 million project to reduce travel time.
