Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., has taken over as sponsor for a bill that aims to help sexual assault survivors, which had been sponsored by Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., according to CNN.

Abby Honold, a rape survivor, worked on the bill with Franken and his office for about a year, and she told The Washington Post that she approached Klobuchar's office when she heard about sexual harassment allegations against Franken.

The bill would provide grants for law enforcement personnel to get training on questioning survivors of sexual assault and other trauma, the CNN report said.

"They agreed it would be best for the legislation and for every survivor of sexual assault for that bill to be sponsored by someone else," she told CNN.

Klobuchar condemned the actions of Franken, her fellow Minnesota Democrat, over the allegation from radio host Leann Tweeden that Franken had "forcibly" groped and kissed her in 2006.

"This should not have happened to Leann Tweeden . . . I strongly condemn this behavior and the Senate Ethics Committee must open an investigation. This is another example of why we need to change work environments and reporting practices across the nation, including in Congress," Klobuchar said in a statement, according to CNN.

Klobuchar's office confirmed that she had taken over the sponsorship, telling CNN that Klobuchar had spoken to Honold about the decision Saturday.
