New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had placed calls to state lawmakers in an attempt to convince them not to make statements calling for his resignation.

The calls were made on Sunday, as more allegations of sexual harassment surfaced, according to The City. The news outlet attributed its information to several lawmakers who heard from Cuomo.

The governor maintained any calls for his resignation would undermine the probe being launched by state Attorney General Letitia James. The calls were made shortly after state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Democrat, urged Cuomo's resignation, The City noted.

James on Monday appointed Joon Kim, who was the acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York for parts of 2017 and 2018, and employment lawyer Anne Clark, to lead the probe.

Several women, including three former members of Cuomo's staff, are accusing the governor of asking questions about their sex life, making inappropriate comments about their appearance, and, in some cases, giving them uncomfortable hugs or unwanted kisses.

Some of the lawmakers contacted by The City said James and others on her staff have assured them that any probe of Cuomo would continue even if he stepped down from office.

A group of 21 women in the New York State Assembly released a statement Monday asking that James be given time to complete her probe.
