Democrat Andrew Gillum holds a 52 percent to 46 percent lead in the Florida governor’s race over Republican Ron DeSantis, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
The race has tightened since the last survey, released on September 26, when Gillum held a 54 percent to 45 percent advantage over his GOP rival.
Other results from the poll include:
- White voters support DeSantis 54 percent to 44 percent, but Gillum leads among blacks 99 percent to 1 percent and among Hispanics 59 percent to 36 percent.
- Women back Gillum 59 percent to 38 percent, while men support DeSantis 54 percent to 44 percent.
- Gillum leads 96 percent to 4 percent among Democrats and 57 percent to 39 percent among Independents, while DeSantis has the advantage among Republicans 89 percent to 8 percent.
“Looking inside the numbers..., we see shining examples of the problems Republicans face this year, not just in Florida, but around the country,” said Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director Peter Brown.
“The GOP has faced strong opposition from women and other anti-Trump voters. These defections have hurt GOP candidates around the country and made it difficult to attract the numbers of independent voters that are often major players in successful campaigns.”
The poll was conducted from October 17-21 and surveyed 1,161 likely Florida voters. The survey has margin of error of +/- 3.5 percentage points.
