Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences, TMZ reported Tuesday.
According to the celebrity gossip site, the actress and humanitarian filed Monday and cited Sept. 15 as the date of separation.
"She's asking for physical custody of the couple's six children. She is asking the judge to give Pitt visitation. It's significant . . . she does not want Brad to have joint physical custody . . . only joint legal custody," TMZ reported. "Sources connected with the couple tell us . . . Angelina's decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children . . . she was extremely upset with his methods."
An attorney for Jolie confirmed the report to Reuters.
"This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time," attorney Robert Offer said in a statement.
Jolie, 41, and Pitt, 52, first made headlines with rumors of their romance in 2004, when Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. The couple married in 2014 and have six children together — Maddox, 15, born in Cambodia; Pax, 12, born in Vietnam; Zahara, 11, born in Ethiopia, Shiloh, 10; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8.
