Scaramucci: Trump's 'Preemptive Move' on NKorea 'Right One'

Friday, 25 May 2018 10:16 AM EDT

Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci Friday praised President Donald Trump for his decision to pull out of the planned North Korean summit, calling his move the "right one."

"It was probably a combination of different factors," Scaramucci told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

"You don't want to get caught off-guard in the early part of June, where they are doing something unexpected. His preemptive move was the right one."

However, that doesn't mean the summit won't happen, said Scaramucci, and he thinks it must be frustrating to him that there are some in the media who have poked fun at his "break-up letter" over the summit.

"He is a business person and negotiator, and he's playing it very straight and they're spinning it that way," said Scaramucci. "If you look at the politicians interviewed, it's the same sort of nonsense. At the end of the day, he has a deal on the table that he will accept from the American people. If that does not work, then there will be no deal. It's that simple."

Trump's 'bluntness and backbone" is something that his critics don't like, said Scaramucci, and he finds that ironic.

"It's almost like they are supporting, they support, MS-13, Hamas and now they are supporting Kim Jong Un," he added, and his critics don't want him to get a win.

"It's crazy," he said. "We are all Americans. This guy has the best interest at heart .. .at the end of the day, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and get this deal done if it's going to happen."

Scaramucci added that he is optimistic that a deal with happen.

"Remember, when he brought the hostages back there were no concessions, no payment, none of the nonsense that those politicians were talking about," said Scaramucci. "This is a brand new era."

He also praised Trump's decision to pardon boxing legend Jack Johnson posthumously, clearing the name of the nation's first black heavyweight champ more than 100 years after he was imprisoned for violating the Mann Act, which forbade the transportation of white women across state lines for "immoral" purposes, after he was caught traveling with his white girlfriend.

"I love this story on so many levels," he said. "Supposedly the president is a racist. He is one of the least racist people I know. Sly Stallone brings the case to the president. The president looks at it and immediately says 'Okay, this is completely and totally unfair. That exoneration sends a message to everybody, okay, about what is fair in our society and what isn't."
