President Donald Trump's comments that he'd never heard of a Category 5 hurricane and that Alabama could be damaged by Hurricane Dorian are "emblematic" of his"mental decline," former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, who has turned into a frequent critic of the president's, said Tuesday.
"I think what happens is he's on sort of replay mode, you know, so it's almost like a season rerun for him," Scaramucci told CNN's "New Day." "He has a few phrases that he uses repetitively that he thinks is working."
He also predicted that Trump's ratings will continue to drop as matters have gone "past the tripwire of normalcy" and he believes "responsible Republicans that know the situation are going to have to speak out because you've got to save the party."
Scaramucci added that he believes more GOP challengers will announce their candidacies against Trump, and he thinks Trump won't end up staying in his race for reelection.
"It's not clear to me that he's going to make it," said Scaramucci. "Somebody that really loves the Republican Party and loves America actually needs to damage him going into the presidential race."
Scaramucci, who was fired just 11 days on the job, also said that even though he's not a psychologist, as a voter one can see that the "guy is obviously in mental decline," and he finds it "sad and troubling" that the president's closest advisers are not addressing the issue.
He acknowledged that he's been criticized for not standing up to Trump years ago, but it is "way worse today than it was three years ago, and it's going to get way worse in about six months."
