Powerful Democratic backers are discussing a plan to put together a liberal version of "Judicial Watch" in an effort to counter the conservative watchdog group which aggressively investigated Hillary Clinton's email habits, according to Politico.

The website noted Judicial Watch was also a constant thorn in President Barack Obama's side as it regularly filed legal petitions under the Freedom of Information Act during his eight years in office.

The discussions come as top Democratic donors met in Washington to develop and fund plans to battle the incoming Trump administration, while pushing the Democratic agenda.

And other liberal groups were ramping up their efforts to go to war with Trump, Politico reports.

Meanwhile, The New York Times described Judicial Watch as "one of the Clintons' original tormentors, a charter member of what Mrs. Clinton famously called a 'vast right-wing conspiracy' to destroy her and her husband by seizing on any political scandal."

And the newspaper noted the organization did more than any other group or individual to help create the image Hillary Clinton is "untrustworthy."
