Freshman firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., came under fire on Thursday for an attack on Republicans that mistakenly identified a fellow Democrat as a GOP lawmaker.
In a tweet that has since been deleted, the progressive Ocasio-Cortez chided Republicans by posting: "GOP: Let's pose our older male members next to cardboard cutouts of young female legislators.”
The picture included a post from the Republican Party of Kentucky but the politician in the picture was Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky,.
Daily Caller correspondent Ryan Saavedra tweeted :“AOC doesn't even know who her Democrat colleagues in Congress are, how embarrassing.”
Poster Caleb Hull described the gaffe as “Major yikes.”
“In this tweet, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shows she has no idea who John Yarmuth even is. He's a Kentucky Democrat who just happens to be the Chair of the House Budget Committee,” Hull wrote.
Another commenter called it “kinda sad she assumed he was a Republican.”
It wasn’t the first time Ocasio-Cortez appeared to mix up her political parties.
While appearing in a video with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., she said she’d turn a Kansas house seat "red" — the color often representing the Republican Party, Fox News reported at the time.
