Americans' dismay at Congress encompasses both parties, but a newly released poll shows more discontent with Republicans than Democrats.
A
Washington Post-ABC News poll found that 74 percent of those polled think GOP leaders are blowing it in budget negotiations, Politico reports. That's an 11-point increase since the government shut down Oct. 1 and a 4-point increase from last week.
As for Democrats, a majority of those polled don't like them, either: 61 percent expressed disapproval of the party, compared with 56 percent since Oct. 1, Politico reports.
Inside party lines, the numbers are also dismal. While 49 percent of those who describe themselves as Republicans give their approval to the way the budget negotiations are being handled by their leaders, 47 percent do not.
President Barack Obama's approval rating also has taken a hit, as 53 percent of Americans say they don't like the way he is dealing with the situation.
The poll tapped responses from 1,005 adults.
