Attorneys general in several states have filed more multi-state lawsuits against President Donald Trump's administration than any other administration in recent years, The Hill reports.

Marquette University political scientist Paul Nolette found that states have filed 103 suits against the Trump administration in its first three years, and Democratic state attorneys general filed 40 lawsuits against the Trump administration in his first year in office. In former President Barack Obama's eight years in office his administration faced 78 multi-state lawsuits, and in former President George W. Bush’s two terms his administration was hit with 76 multi-state suits.

"Every time this guy breaks the law, we take him to court," said California attorney general Xavier Becerra.

Getting states to join a coalition "adds strength, it certainly adds value, and it shows unity. It demonstrates that the unlawful action that the Trump administration is looking to take impacts more than just one state."

The Environmental Protection Agency has faced more lawsuits than any other government agency, with 31 over new rules and repeals of Obama-era regulations. The departments of Health and Human Services and the Interior have each been sued about a dozen times.

"It has much less to do with the Trump administration itself than it does with the attorneys general and how they've realized how effective their lawsuits are and how many incentives they have to bring these lawsuits in the first place," Nolette said. "This is a more permanent part of the landscape now."
