Michele Bachmann Flees as Press Asks About Ethics Probe

Former GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann reportedly fled a press conference on Tuesday when the line of questioning took an uncomfortable turn to the ethics probe of her 2012 run for the White House.

The Minnesota congresswoman had planned to discuss issues with the state's Medicaid system in a joint press conference with Minnesota state Sen. Sean Nienow.

But “When the questioning turned to Rep. Bachmann's ethics problems from her 2012 presidential campaign, aides closed in blocking reporters and photographers and ushered her out of the room,” reports The Minneapolis Star Tribune. “Aide Deb Steiskal blocked Star Tribune reporter Rachel Stassen-Berger . . . and aide Brian Gordon . . . blocked cameramen John Cottew from Fox 9 and Art Phillips from WCCO, backing into them and pushing them out of the way.”

Bachmann subsequently called the probe politically motivated and insisted that she will be cleared.

"There's political motivations that are involved because I've been named as the number one target [FOR]defeat by the Democrat Party, by Nancy Pelosi and also by SuperPACs so, you know no one can know anyone's thoughts or intents, but clearly it looks like it's politically motivated,” Bachmann said, according to the New York Daily News.

It wasn’t Bachmann’s first tussle with the media.

Last month Bachmann “ran away” from CNN's Dana Bash, according to Huffington Post.

The Daily Beast reported last month that ex-Bachmann staffers have been grilled about “allegations of improper transfer of funds and under-the-table payments actions by Bachmann’s presidential campaign, specifically in relation to the campaign’s national political director, Guy Short, and Bachmann’s one-time Iowa campaign chairman, state Sen. Kent Sorenson.’’
