President Barack Obama, in a
New York Times op-ed published Thursday ahead of
his town hall meeting on guns on CNN, said he won't support any candidate who doesn't back "common-sense gun reform."
The op-ed closely followed Obama's speech on Tuesday in which he called for more safety measures on guns, including microstamping of bullets, which would mark which gun they were shot from.
"Even as I continue to take every action possible as president, I will also take every action I can as a citizen," Obama wrote. "I will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate, even in my own party, who does not support common-sense gun reform."
And, he added, "if the 90 percent of Americans who do support common-sense gun reforms join me, we will elect the leadership we deserve."
