New Ben Carson Book Exposes Forces of Division

Oft-mentioned 2016 GOP presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson has a new book coming out.

The Penguin Group’s Sentinel imprint announced Thursday that it has acquired publication rights to Carson’s new tome: “One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future.”

The release date for the book is May 20.

Carson told Newsmax on Thursday that his new book will “expose those elements that continually try to divide the people in order to strengthen their own grip of power.”

He adds the book takes on politically correct voices who seek “to drive wedges into every single crack thereby creating a perceived offense about which people are made to feel that they should be upset.”

Carson rose to national political prominence in February 2013, following his keynote address at the 61st Annual National Prayer Breakfast.

Commentators on the left saw his impassioned defense of individual liberty and accountability as a broadside directed against President Obama, who was seated just a few chairs away. But Carson refused to apologize for speaking his mind.

Less well known to many is Carson’s extraordinary medical career. He served as director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center from 1984 to 2013.

Carson achieved the first separation of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head in 1987. He also made the first completely successful separation of “type-2” vertical Siamese twins in 1997 in South Africa.

In 2001, CNN and TIME Magazine named Carson one of the nation’s 20 foremost physicians and scientists. That same year, he was selected by the Library of Congress on the occasion of its 200th anniversary as one of 89 "Living Legends.”

Carson, who grew up in a poor single-parent household in Detroit, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008. It is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a civilian.

He has written five best-selling books, authored over 100 neurosurgical publications, and has been awarded more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees.

Carson says his book provides action steps advising readers what they need to do to preserve their cherished liberties and values.

In addition to his literary endeavors, Carson is the co-founder and president of Carson Scholars Fund, which recognizes and rewards selected students in grades 4 through 12 for superior academic achievement and community service. The Fund also establishes reading rooms in schools across the nation.

On Thursday, Sentinel President and Publisher Adrian Zackheim stated: "We are honored to welcome Dr. Ben Carson to the Sentinel publishing program. His is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing and resonant new voices to be heard on the national political landscape in a very long time.”
