Ben Stein Explains Why He Could Never Have Voted for Clinton

Economist Ben Stein defended his vote for Donald Trump and blasted Hillary Clinton as "corrupt."

Stein made his comments in an interview with Tavis Smiley on PBS.

"He was running against a woman who I thought was thoroughly corrupt and had lied a lot," Stein said. "I've known her for a really long time. She and I were in law school together — Yale. And I've never really liked her very much.

"I never vote for Democrats. The guy I really liked was (Sen.) Lindsey Graham because my number one issue is national defense."

Stein, 72, is author of the new book, "The Capitalist Code: It Can Save Your Life and Make You Very Rich."

He said the Democratic Party has become much more ideologically left wing over the years.

"They've become violently pro-abortion," he said. "Right to life is my second biggest issue after national defense."

Stein said Trump has made mistakes while in the White House. However, he added: "Everyone makes mistakes."

In response to a question by Smiley, Stein noted: "I've not been thoroughly embarrassed and humiliated by him."

"He's where I am on right to life," he said. "He's where I am on saying the right things about national defense. He's on the right track with me on saying the right things about Israel. But unfortunately, what he says and does is not always the same."

Stein maintained Rex Tillerson was a strange choice to be secretary of state.

"He had no government experience to speak of," Stein said. "But he's a terribly smart guy. But do we want to have a gigantic oil company in charge of foreign policy? I'm not sure."

Stein claimed it does not appear as if anyone is in charge of anything in the administration.

"We need someone who is very calculating," he said. "We need a (Richard) Nixon, who calculated every single thing. Nixon was the greatest peacemaker of all time.

"Trump isn't remotely in that league. And I don't even think he's that great a businessman.

Stein was asked what the "Capitalist Code" in his book title referred to.

"It is the idea that if you buy stock in a company, it's the same as owning a business," Stein explained. "Owning your own business or inheriting it through your grandparents or parents is a great thing to do. Most of us can't do that. But we can buy stock. Just buy the index funds. Buy a few thousand of it every month or however much you can afford until it adds up.

"It's essentially the same as you owning your own business."

And he added: "He's not particularly smart. He is very, very impulsive.
