The father of a Navy SEAL killed in the 2012 attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi Tuesday endorsed Donald Trump.
"I support Donald Trump, and the main reason is national security as well as the economy are the two most important issues that voters are going to have to decide upon next November," Charles Woods said in a statement from the Trump campaign.
He is the father of Tyrone Woods, 41, who was among four Americans who perished in the Libyan attack. His son was a former SEAL who was working as a contractor for the CIA at the compound. Woods received a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq.
Charles Woods, who has attacked President Barack Obama for the Benghazi deaths,
praised Trump for his strong positions on national security. Ambassador Christopher Stevens also died in the assaults.
Woods is the second parent of a Benghazi victim to support Trump's White House bid.
Patricia Smith, whose has long attacked Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, spoke at the Republican National Convention last month and has
defended the nominee in television interviews.
Trump said of Woods' endorsement: "Tyrone Woods is an American hero and his father is a tremendous person whom I have great respect for. His support is so important to me."
