Bernie Sanders Unaware of '16 Campaign Sexual Harassment

(CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360")

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., apologized for alleged sexual harassment that occurred on his 2016 presidential campaign and said he was unaware of the claims at the time.

In the wake of The New York Times report that detailed several women's accusations from their time on the campaign, Sanders told CNN he will do better if he decides to run in 2020.

"I am not gonna sit here and tell you that we did everything right in terms of human resources, in terms of addressing the needs that I am hearing now that women felt disrespected, that there was sexual harassment, which was not dealt with as effectively as possible," Sanders said.

Sanders then explained how his 2018 reelection campaign had better rules and protections for women who said they were harassed.

"I certainly apologize to any woman who felt she was not treated appropriately, and of course, if I run, we will do better next time," Sanders said.

As for whether he knew about the allegations during the 2016 campaign, Sanders said he had no idea.

"I was a little bit busy running around the country, trying to make the case," he told CNN.

Sanders has yet to commit to launching another White House run for the 2020 election, but some polls have pegged him as the leading candidate on the left if he chooses to join the fray.
