Former Vice President Joe Biden and his team are punching back against his Democratic presidential primary candidates as they level accusations related to racism at him.
"You can't be called the architect of mass incarceration and remain quiet," a Biden ally told The Hill in regards to comments made by Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J. "That's cruel and personal. That goes against his entire career. You can't let people say bull**** and not respond to it.
"The gloves are off. At this point, you have to punch back when someone attacks your record. People want to see him throw a punch. The president is certainly going to come at him hard, so why not start now?"
Biden said during a speech on Wednesday that he has no problems with criticizing his opponents in the crowded Democratic race for president.
"I'm not going to be as polite this time," he told supporters at a fundraiser, according to The Hill.
Biden's comments were in reference to claims made by Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., at the first Democratic debate in which she accused Biden of opposing busing in the 1970s.
The second round of debating among the Democrats will occur next week in Detroit. Biden is the leading candidate on the left in most polls.
