It's little surprise that Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee began an impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump even before special counsel Robert Mueller's report was submitted, Rep. Andy Biggs, a Republican on the committee, said Wednesday.
"They have talked about this for literally at least six months, maybe longer than that," the Arizona Lawmaker told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "It is kind of surprising that if they are indicating that this was official, they have done nothing to make this official, but they have been looking for that peg to hang an impeachment hat on for at least six months."
Fox News reported Tuesday that the committee's Democrats suggested in a court filing that they'd been carrying out the impeachment inquiry for some time, contradicting statements by committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
"The chairman has been garbled on messaging," said Biggs. "He needed to get this investigation going, and he basically started that in January when he became chairman."
Biggs Wednesday also dismissed complaints about the president's call to divert $250 million in FEMA disaster funds for use at the southern border.
"Quite frankly, there is lots of money in FEMA," said Biggs. "This is a normal practice. Don't forget about the humanitarian bill that we just passed in July, specifically prohibiting the use by ICE to add beds...there is going to be money for disaster and hurricane victims, the way that there always is in Congress."
