Bill Clinton Accuses Trump of Corruption Over Pam Bondi Donation

By    |   Wednesday, 07 September 2016 04:48 PM EDT

Former President Bill Clinton spun the criticism of his family foundation to Donald Trump Wednesday, accusing the Republican presidential nominee of spending his own charity's money to pay off Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

"People can say anything today. I saw where her opponent attacked my foundation," Clinton said during a speech in Orlando about his wife Hillary's presidential hopes. "I think that's 'cause he knew they were about to report that he used his foundation to give money to your attorney general, which is not legal.

"But look, I spent 15 years building that thing. We just were rated, we got the top rating from all three major charity graders. Charity Navigator, the last one, gave us a higher grade than the Red Cross because we're open and transparent and we put a huge percentage of the donations right into work."

The Clintons have been accused of corruption within their family foundation, with emails suggesting that Hillary Clinton, while she was secretary of state under President Barack Obama, conducted a pay-to-play scheme.

Trump has also come under fire for a $25,00 payment he made to Bondi's re-election campaign in 2013. Florida had been considering opening a case against Trump University but declined to do so sometime after the donation was made.
