Former President Bill Clinton attempted to brush aside speculation about his wife's health Monday, telling CBS News' Charlie Rose she has suffered from dehydration before.
"Rarely, but on more than one occasion over the last many, many years, the same sort of thing's happened to her where she got severely dehydrated," Clinton said of Hillary Clinton, the current Democratic presidential nominee.
Hillary Clinton disclosed on Sunday she has pneumonia after she felt dehydrated at a 9/11 remembrance event and was seen appearing to faint as she got into a van.
"She's worked as a demon, as you know, as secretary of state and as a senator and in the years since," Bill Clinton told Rose.
"But more importantly, she's on a grueling campaign," Rose volunteered. "And you know what that's like."
"I do," Bill Clinton said.
Rose noted that Hillary Clinton – who will turn 69 next month – is older than her husband was during his successful runs for president in the 1990s. He was in his mid-40s during the 1992 campaign.
Hillary Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and "had 2 1/2 hard days before the day when she got dizzy," Bill Clinton said. "Today she made a decision, which I think was correct, to cancel her campaign day to take one more day to rest."
Rose asked if it is possible Hillary Clinton could take weeks away from the campaign trail just as it heads into the final stretch.
"No, not a shot," her husband said.
