Bill Clinton: Media to Blame for Hillary's Email Issue

By    |   Monday, 09 December 2024 03:22 PM EST

Former President Bill Clinton said in an interview Monday the mainstream media blew Hillary Clinton's email controversy out of proportion during the 2016 presidential election.

Appearing on "Morning Joe," Clinton discussed an excerpt from his new book "Citizen," where he shares the rage he felt after his wife lost to President-elect Donald Trump in 2016.

"The mainstream media told the American people repeatedly that the biggest issue was Hillary's emails. That's what they said," Clinton said.

Hillary Clinton was investigated by the FBI for using a private email server to send and receive emails while she served as secretary of state. No charges were ever filed, though FBI Director James Comey dropped an October surprise right before the election when he announced he was reopening the investigation after emails were found on the computer of disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y.

Clinton said the media treated Hillary like she had committed a crime.

"Even the Trump State Department said she neither sent nor received a single solitary email on her personal device marked classified," Clinton said. "And two, she followed the rules as they then existed. The rules were changed after she left office. And yet, the whole story was written as if she had done something hideous."
