Bill Clinton Universally Panned Over Lewinsky Apology Dodge

Former President Bill Clinton on Monday successfully unified conservatives, liberals and the media, getting them all to agree on one thing - he messed up. Big time.

The nation's 42nd president is catching flak from all sides and ideologies over his response to a question about whether he owes Monica Lewinsky a private apology over the White House affair that got him impeached 20 years ago.

When Donald Trump Jr. and Mika Brzezinski both agree that Clinton's interview with NBC's "Today" about his handling of the Lewinsky affair was a disaster, it's a bad day.

Brzezinski scoffed at Clinton's answer, that he does not owe Lewinsky a private apology and that somehow he, too, was a victim of the investigation into the matter; Clinton said the left the White House $16 million in debt.

"It has been for decades an unbelievable double standard that the Clintons have used and abused where nobody is allowed to go there on this issue, and in the age of 'Me Too,' women are supposed to go there and men, by the way," Brzezinski said Monday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program. "We’re supposed to be able to say what the difference is between right and wrong."

Even media members weighed in.

"What you saw there, I think, is the end of Bill Clinton’s life as a public figure in this country," GOP strategist Steve Schmidt said on "Morning Joe." "Because of that interview, I don’t think he’s campaigning anywhere ever again unless he can clean it up and fix it pretty quickly. All he needed to say in the interview is 'I am profoundly and deeply sorry.'"

And there were more:

Ana Navarro wrote: "I know Bill Clinton. I like Bill Clinton. I think b/c so many of us like him, we treat him w/kid gloves on this, despite changing times. This was a chance for a “mea culpa” & self-reflection. His defensive deflection does not help him, Lewinsky or #MeToo"

Clinton is on a promotional tour for his new book he wrote with James Patterson, titled "The President is Missing."
