Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly on Tuesday dismissed Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's threat to sue the network for "insulting" France,
Mediaite reported.
"They're dominated by Muslims and police hesitated to go in there," O'Reilly said regarding reports of "no-go zones" in Paris where police and non-Muslims generally do not enter.
"I will point out that the mayor is a socialist, that Fox News isn’t even seen in France, because they block it there," O'Reilly said, adding that the lawsuit "is just another attention-getter, another playing to the left, that's what this is. Suit's going nowhere. It’s ridiculous."
But when O'Reilly said Fox never insulted France, his guest, former CBS News correspondent Bernie Goldberg, replied that "if any news organization has to apologize as many times as Fox has on this one issue, something is wrong."
Although
Fox's multiple apologies included France, O'Reilly claimed the only person at fault was Steven Emerson of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, who is not actually employed by Fox News.
Emerson apologized for comments he made earlier this month on Fox News, including a statement that cities like Birmingham, in Britain, are
"totally Muslim" and that non-Muslims do not enter.
