An attorney for Bill O'Reilly went on the offensive in defense of the Fox News talk show host, claiming that his client is the victim of a "smear campaign," according to multiple reports.

Lawyer Marc Kasowitz sent a statement to several news organizations late Tuesday night, claiming to have "irrefutable evidence" that the star host of "The O'Reilly Factor" is in fact a victim.

"Bill O'Reilly has been subjected to a brutal campaign of character assassination that is unprecedented in post-McCarthyist America," Kasowitz wrote in the statement. "This law firm has uncovered evidence that the smear campaign is being orchestrated by far-left organizations bent on destroying O'Reilly for political and financial reasons. That evidence will be put forth shortly and it is irrefutable."

O'Reilly, currently on a scheduled vacation, according to Fox, has been in the spotlight since a recent New York Times report alleged that Fox News has been forced to pay out about $13 million in hush money to five women who levied sexual harassment claims against O'Reilly.

The report came just a few months after Fox News forced out former chairman Roger Ailes over several sexual harassment accusations. The company reached a record $20 million settlement with former morning show host Gretchen Carlson over her claims of sexual improprieties at the hands of Ailes.

Since the Times report, dozens of companies have pulled their advertising from O'Reilly's prime-time show and more allegations have surfaced.

Multiple media outlets have reported that there's a split among the Murdochs about whether to cut ties with the network's most-watched host, though The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that O'Reilly will not be back.
