American journalism is in a state of "utter disintegration," and the media "is taking all of us for morons," according to former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.
In an opinion piece for The Hill posted Wednesday, the "Killing England" author and commentator decries an NBC News report that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson threatened to resign, and called President Donald Trump a "moron."
"The utter disintegration of journalism in America is a huge, untold story," O’Reily wrote, saying the NBC News report "demonstrates this perfectly."
"Instantly, the anti-Trump press decided the anonymous allegation was true," he wrote, adding: "A blind allegation is not a fact."
"The press used to have an obligation to provide facts and fairness," he wrote. "In America, that is no longer the case. The media is taking all of us for morons."
O’Reilly complained if an allegation is "sensational, it gets reported — verification and perspective be damned."
"Am I the only one who sees the danger here?" he asked.
"There is no question that most media organizations want to get President Trump out of office," he wrote, pointing to a Pew organization study that found during his first three months in office, only 5 percent of Trump’s press converge was positive.
"Genghis Khan got better press," he wrote.
"So this is where we are as far as ‘journalism’ is concerned," he wrote. "All allegations against politicians or famous people, who have a very high bar if they want to sue, are broadcast or printed. They then become talk-show facts, discussed as if the anonymous accusations are absolutely accurate."
