Former Massachusetts GOP Gov. Bill Weld, a longshot challenger to President Donald Trump, is calling out the president as a "raging racist," warning if Republicans do not denounce him in the 2020 election they will be branded the "party of racism."
In a speech at the NAACP convention in Detroit on Wednesday, Weld said Trump's racism runs deep, USA Today reported.
"Donald Trump is a raging racist, OK?" he said, the news outlet reported. "He's a complete and thoroughgoing racist. And he made that choice, a choice a long time ago, when he was engaged in the housing business in New York with his father."
The remarks are the latest in a furor over Trump's criticism of four minority congresswomen.
"The national Republican Party has a choice," Weld said, calling it a "moral choice."
"Unless the Republican Party in Washington expressly, expressly rejects the racism of Donald Trump, they're going to come to be universally viewed as the party of racism in America," he warned, USA Today reported.
