Tony Blair: World Must Unite to Defeat Muslim Extremism

By    |   Sunday, 26 April 2015 04:34 PM EDT

Violent Muslim extremism must be defeated to prevent its proponents from continuing to think they can get away with it, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said.

Appearing Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York, Blair spoke about the killings of Christians in the Muslim world, saying, "We need to mobilize a huge amount of support wherever this type of terrorism and extremism is happening to go make sure it’s defeated."

The world has not yet fully come to terms with the scale of the radical Islamist problem or the need to deal with it, Blair told host John Catsimatidis. There is a need to educate the young people in many of the countries who have been taught a close-minded view of the world, he said.

"For years and years they [African Muslims and Christians] have lived in harmony," Blair said. "This [Muslim intolerance] is a recent phenomenon. This goes back over the last 20 years or so. And it is a sort of poison that has developed within the religion of Islam that does not properly represent Islam, but is nonetheless there, and is encouraged in these extremist activities that then divide the community."
