Bidding to be the first Republican Senator elected in New Jersey since 1972, Bob Hugin told Newsmax TV that Democrats are "desperate," as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is pouring millions – $7 million already – into the campaign of incumbent Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J.
"They're worried, they're desperate, but it's too late," Hugin, a Marine Corps veteran, told Wednesday's "America Talks Live." "The people of New Jersey know how bad it's been and how good it can be after Nov. 6."

The Cook Political Report recently upgraded Hugin's chances by changing the race from "leans Democrat" to a "toss up."
The RealClear Politics polling average does give Menendez a 6.5-point lead and a "leans Dem" rating, but Hugin says New Jersey "deserves better" and it is "an embarrassment" the state has a senator who had a public corruption trial thrown out on a hung jury.
"[Menendez] has failed us," Hugin told hosts John Bachman and Dr. Gina Loudon. "We're 50th out of 50, we get the least back from Washington than any state in the country. This guy's corrupt, ineffective, and hypocritical."
Hugin's platform denounced the "unaffordability" of New Jersey because of high blue-state taxes, poor infrastructure, and high out-migration of senior citizens and 18- to 24-year-olds.
"The people realize it's just not unsustainable," Hugin added. ". . . It really makes this state unattractive for new people to come."
