Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was clearly trying to "subvert the rules" when she asked aide Jake Sullivan in an email to turn a secure fax that wasn't transmitting into "nonpaper with no identifying information and send nonsecure," says The Washington Post's Bob Woodward.

The recently released email making the request is important, Woodward said on Fox News Sunday, "Because you have here the secretary of state in 2011 saying, 'Let's subvert the rules.' … It's very clear from the earlier emails that this was a security issue."

By taking the heading off, Woodward said, "it's just a piece of paper with a bunch of paragraphs and there's no classification, there's no subject, so it's not in the system, so no one can discover it through [the] Freedom of Information Act or some sort of subpoena.”

Woodward noted that Clinton worked on the staff of the Nixon impeachment committee where one of the lessons for anyone wanting to cover anything up was "Never write anything down."

"She did years of Whitewater investigations where she was the target," he said. "Here, many years later, she’s saying ‘Let's subvert the rules,' and writing it out herself."

Whether Clinton committed a crime in making the request is less important than the fact that it shows "she kind of feels immune, that she lives in a bubble and no one’s ever going to find this out. Well, now we have."
