The Trump administration's plans to secure America's southern border reportedly involve more than 700 miles of new and replacement wall, which would mean roughly half the border would have some sort of physical barrier.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the administration put together a document for the proposal, which carries a price tag of nearly $18 billion for the wall.

There are currently 654 miles of fencing on the U.S. side of the border with Mexico. The plan, the Journal reported, involves replacing several sections of that existing barrier and adding more than 300 miles of new fencing.

The Department of Homeland Security prepared the document for several senators who requested a detailed ask regarding the administration's border wall plans. The document contains a total of $33 billion in expenditures related to improving border security.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called the proposal "alarming," the Journal reported.

On Thursday, Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said Trump is bending on his initial demand of having a wall stretch across the entire border.

"There's going to be border fencing in some areas, there's going to be vehicular barricades, there's going to be technology, there's going to be greater manpower in some areas," Lankford said.

Republicans and Democrats are trying to work together on an immigration deal that would include some sort of border security provision.
