The wall along the U.S.-Mexico border will be a "beautiful" structure made of "artistically designed steel slats" you can see through, President Donald Trump said Tuesday.
"The Democrats, are saying loud and clear that they do not want to build a Concrete Wall – but we are not building a Concrete Wall, we are building artistically designed steel slats, so that you can easily see through it," Trump tweeted.
"It will be beautiful and, at the same time, give our Country the security that our citizens deserve," he continued. "It will go up fast and save us BILLIONS of dollars a month once completed!"
Trump is seeking $5 billion in funding for the wall, but Dems are only offering $1.3 billion with the stipulation the money be used for fencing and additional border security. The White House, though, appeared open to signing off on a lower amount to avoid a government shutdown.
"At the end of the day we don't want to shut down the government, we want to shut down the border from illegal immigration," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Tuesday.
She later said Trump had asked all Cabinet agencies to come up with unspent funds.
Both sides have until Friday to come to an agreement.
