President Donald Trump's expanded list of possible candidates to succeed U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley includes breast cancer fundraiser Nancy Brinker, Politico reported.
According to Politico, aides hope a female successor in the high-profile role could help shore up support among female voters before the midterms, the news outlet reported.
The list is compiling candidates with experience in the foreign policy arena after top pick Dina Powell, a Goldman Sachs executive and former Trump administration member, withdrew her name from contention, Politico reported.
Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is now on the list of contenders. Other women on the expanded list are former New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, and Kelly Knight Craft, the U.S. ambassador to Canada.
Outside advisers have also recommended Kay Bailey Hutchison, the current U.S. ambassador to NATO, though it is not clear if she is in the running, Politico reported.
