John Brennan dismissed Donald Trump's insinuation that the outgoing CIA director was behind the leak of the highly inflammable and unfounded dossier that was published online last week, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Trump on Sunday swung back at Brennan over his criticism of the president-elect regarding Russia, tweeting "Was this the leaker of Fake News?"
"Was I a leaker of this? No," Brennan told the Journal. "First of all, this is not intelligence community information."
Further, Brennan noted that the dossier had been circulating for many months and that he hasn't even read it.
"I would have no interest in trying to give that dossier any additional airtime," Brennan told the Journal.
While Brennan brushed off the personal criticism aimed his way by Trump, he called it "repugnant" that the president-elect invoked Nazi Germany in suggesting the CIA or intelligence community would leak information to harm him.
"It's when there are allegations made about leaking or about dishonesty or a lack of integrity, that’s where I think the line is crossed," Brennan said.
"Tell the CIA officers who are serving in harm's way right now and their families who are worried about them that they are akin to Nazi Germany. I found that to be very repugnant."
