Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, ripped news outlets for focusing coverage on allegations President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russians.

His comments came during an interview on Fox Business Network’s "Varney & Co." on Thursday – a day after former special counsel Robert Mueller testified before two House committees.

“First, we have to ask ourselves, what in the world was Mueller going to do other than confirm his own study that said Donald Trump was innocent?” said Bozell, co-author of “Unmasked: Big Media’s War Against Trump.”

“He was never going to say anything more than that.”

But Bozell said certain members of the press were disappointed with what Mueller had to say.

“It’s a throwback to election night 2016 when they all thought that Hillary was going to win and suddenly Trump wins,” Bozell said. “And they were so crestfallen. It happened again yesterday. I thought the news media were going to break down in tears. They know this damn thing is over once and for all.”

He noted Trump has said from the very beginning that “there’s not a scintilla of evidence because it didn’t happen.”

“Yet in a study we did, virtually one-fifth of the network coverage of Donald Trump, since he became president, has focused on the quote, unquote scandal – a scandal that never existed,” he said. “Now that its unquestionable that he’s innocent, what will they do about the false accusations? Are they going to investigate them? it’s not going to happen. They don’t want to.”
