President Donald Trump reportedly berated British Prime Minister Theresa May during a phone call on Air Force One last week, complaining about Britain's failure to contain Iran and what he deems unfair trade deals with European countries, The Washington Post reported.
Trump was flying to Paris for a ceremony commemorating 100 years since the end of World War I when May called to congratulate him on Republicans victories in the midterm elections.
May and her aides were "shaken" by Trump's foul mood, according to U.S. and European officials who spoke with the Post and who were briefed on the conversation.
The following five days were "testy," reports the Post.
"He was frustrated with the trip, and he's itching to make some changes," said one senior White House official told the news outlet. "This is a week where things could get really dicey."
Reports surfaced Tuesday that Trump was considering firing chief of staff John Kelly over his clashes with first lady Melania Trump, as well as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen as he was unhappy over her progress on immigration enforcement.
Trump was in a poor mood because of the elections – Democrats took the House – and over media coverage of his decision to skip a ceremony honoring the military sacrifice of World War I because of rain.
The president was also irked by French President Emmanuel Macron's denunciation of nationalism, and lashed out Monday, saying Macron "suffers from a very low approval rating."
