The notorious BTK killer says he is receiving special treatment in prison. The murderer gave his first media interview since his 2005 sentencing and outrageously called himself the prison “pet” and said he is being well taken care of. He spoke exclusively to The Daily Mail.
Dennis Radar, who took to calling himself BTK (Blind, Torture, Kill), was arrested in Feb. 2005 on suspicion of murdering 10 people in Wichita, Kansas between 1974 and 1991, The Wichita Eagle reports. He sent several taunting letters to the media in which he claimed responsibility for the murders but in 1979 he went quiet. It was only in 2005 that police were able to apprehend him after he resumed correspondence.
The 73-year-old was sentenced to 10 consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole. He has not spoken to the media until earlier this month, when he responded to a series of questions submitted by The Daily Mail to the El Dorado Correctional Facility in Prospect Township, Kansas. The picture that emerges is of special treatment and privileges.
"I believe I’m the facility 'pet'," he told the news outlet in his correspondence. "They take good care of me but sort of hide the world or keep me under close wrap, but I have all the segregation privileges."
Radar explained that he was living in his own cell with a "nice window and full metal door with porthole window." Inside his room was a "TV, radio, hot-pot, books..."
Radar added that he could also "call people, have visitors, just live alone and can’t have contact with others outside my cell, unless handcuff, probably listed as ‘high profile."
The convicted serial killer said he spent his time working on art, poetry and writing letters and exercising.
"Been here 13 years and 190 days as I write, after a while you just get tired of the same thing day after day, but keeping busy helps, also changing one’s routine," he added.
