The California Department of Water Resources rejected President Donald Trump's claim that the U.S. military "turned on the water" from the Pacific Northwest, saying federal water pumps were restarted by the federal government after maintenance.
Trump on Monday wrote in a Truth Social post: "The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest."
Not true, said CA-DWR.
"The military did not enter California. The federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days. State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful," the agency wrote in a post on X.
Trump last week signed an executive order that directed federal agencies to "maximize" water deliveries in California and to "override" state policies if needed. Trump has accused Gov. Gavin Newsom of holding back water supplies in California and impeding the state's response to the wildfires in Los Angeles.
Newsom and other state officials deny Trump's claims and say there is plenty of water in Southern California.
