The economy is a primary reason why President Barack Obama has seen his support drop among Hispanics, activist Rachel Campos-Duffy said Monday.
"It's really the economic issues [Hispanics are] responding to. And that's why you've seen the largest drop of any demographic in support for Obama has been Hispanics," Campos-Duffy told
"Fox & Friends."
Campos-Duffy, the wife of Wisconsin GOP Rep. Sean Duffy, works to promote The Libre Initiative, a nonpartisan group that supports policies to benefit Hispanics. She described "true Hispanics" as primarily conservative who have seen the negative effects on the economy from the swell in government entitlement programs.
"[Hispanics] come here for opportunity. And they've seen the results have not been very good since 2008, when we introduced this ... big-government dependency entitlement idea and culture," she said.
In the effort to assist people with government entitlement programs, Campos-Duffy said the American dream was being lost. She explained The Libre Initiative promotes "the policies that make this country an opportunity society."
"We say that the way to succeed — and the way Hispanics have always succeeded in this country — is through personal responsibility, and that work ethic, and that grit," Campos-Duffy said.
