Ben Carson: Obama Letting Islamists 'Destroy Us'

Dr. Ben Carson, an expected GOP presidential contender, said he wants to see the size of government reduced if he one day sits in the Oval Office.

Appearing on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York on Sunday, Carson told host John Catsimatidis his top priority would be to get Congress and the rest of government to understand that "we work for the people. They don’t work for us."

Second, he said, the budget must be under control to reduce the size of government and have a balanced budget and reduce the debt.

The retired chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University said President Barack Obama doesn’t understand capitalism and business.

"We have the highest corporate tax rates in the world. And then we criticize companies for doing work overseas," he said. "People don’t go into business to support the government. People go into business to make money. So we have to create an environment that’s conducive to that."

America also must take a leadership role in the world, he said, because the vacuum being left is creating chaos and opportunity for America's enemies.

"And they will destroy us," Carson said. "Winston Churchill said you must fight your enemies while you can beat them. If you wait too long, you will be fighting for your survival and your freedom."

Carson has raised $12 million for his political committees as he explores a potential 2016 run.
