Purel-loving subway riders used the hand sanitizer to erase swastikas scrawled all over one defaced New York City train over the weekend – earning a tweeted shout-out from Chelsea Clinton.
Straphanger Gregory Locke posted photos of the spontaneous cleanup on his Facebook page that "within about two minutes" wiped away the Nazi symbolism.
"I got on the subway in Manhattan tonight and found a Swastika on every advertisements and every window," Locke wrote. "The train was silent as everyone stared at each other, uncomfortable and unsure what to do."
"One guy got up and said, 'Hand sanitizer gets rid of Sharpie. We need alcohol,'" Locke wrote in the post. "He found some tissues and got to work. I've never seen so many people simultaneously reach into their bags and pockets looking for tissues and Purel."
In a slam at President Donald Trump, another straphanger groused: "I guess this is Trump’s America," according to Locke.
“No sir, it’s not," Locke replied in his post. "Not tonight and not ever. Not as long as stubborn New Yorkers have anything to say about it."
