Ruddy: Russia Probe 'Allegation in Search of a Crime'

Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy Sunday slammed the 18-month-long probe into possible collusion between the campaign of President Donald Trump and Moscow as an “allegation in search of a crime.”

In an interview on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” the longtime friend of the president remarked that he’s become “very frustrated” with special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe, adding that “liberal fears about a conservative candidate shouldn’t warrant a political investigation.”

Like this memo that came out this week, this whole case has been a false, fake, phony allegation of a crime,” Ruddy said of alleged collusion. “It's been about a fake allegation in search of a crime.”

“We had an unprecedented surveillance of a political campaign in American history,” Ruddy added. “The House Intelligence Committee says that at least 100 members and associates of Donald Trump were surveilled and unmasked. And I think that's the big story. Why did that go on, based, again, on a phony allegation in search of crime?”

Ruddy said, however, he believes Trump should “stay away” from the investigation — and thinks Trump should not fire either Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed the special counsel.

“My view is, the president should wall himself off from this,” Ruddy said. “None of the crimes that have been involved so far with Mueller involve his campaign or impact him. The president should stay away from it.”

Ruddy also said recent polls and the new GOP tax cuts have all buoyed the president.

“The approval numbers are up,” he said, pointing to a Rasmussen survey that showed Trump with 49 percent approval, and a Real Clear Politics “rolling average [that] has him up at least 10 percent over the past few weeks.”

“And the generic poll where the Democrats were beating the Republicans by 12 points, the president has cut that in half — it's now six points,” he added. “I think he's riding a high with this tax cut bill where we're seeing companies all across America increasing bonuses.”

“The president is doing some amazing stuff and he's feeling it,” Ruddy said.
