Ruddy: Dick Scaife Had 'Zeal and Dedication' for America

By    |   Friday, 04 July 2014 04:01 PM EDT

Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax Media, Inc. issued the following statement on the passing of Richard M. Scaife:

Today Newsmax and I lost a good friend.

I have known Richard Scaife for two decades, and during that period I saw firsthand his zeal and dedication in making America a better, stronger and freer country.

He was an early investor in Newsmax and as a minority shareholder helped us build
our enterprise into one of the nation’s leading online news outlet and media properties. He believed that the press played a critical role in securing our liberties.

The modern conservative movement owes its existence to Richard Scaife and his early vision. He financially supported key think tanks that promoted the ideals of limited government and a strong national defense.

Mr. Scaife was an early supporter of missile defense programs that were later embraced by President Ronald Reagan.

Some years ago I introduced Dick to former President Bill Clinton. Despite their
previous political differences, Dick developed a friendship with President Clinton. He believed Bill Clinton had served the America people most ably as president and he held the former president in the highest esteem.

Dick Scaife was truly a Yankee Doodle Dandy and it is altogether fitting he passed away on
July 4th, the nation’s birthday.
