Quinnipiac: NJ Voters Overwhelmingly Want Christie to End Race

Quinnipiac: NJ Voters Overwhelmingly Want Christie to End Race

By    |   Tuesday, 10 November 2015 09:06 AM EST

New Jersey voters want Gov. Chris Christie to quit his race for the White House in a new poll that shows him in fourth place.

The Quinnipiac survey, released Tuesday, shows Christie in single digits behind the leaders, with just 8 percent, in what pollsters are calling 'terrible' and 'anemic' numbers in his home state.

Voters support:
  • Donald Trump, with 31 percent
  • Ben Carson, with 16 percent
  • Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, with 15 percent
  • Christie  with 8 percent
  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, with 7 percent
  • Carly Fiorina and Jeb Bush, with 4 percent
  • Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, with 1 percent
  • Ohio Gov. John Kasich, with 3 percent
  • Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Rick Santorum, with 1 percent
  • Undecided, 6 percent
According to the survey, only 53 percent of New Jersey Republicans want the governor to stick it out; 40 percent want him to throw in the towel.

"New Jersey voters think 2-1 that Gov. Christopher Christie should drop the dream that seemed so possible a couple of years ago, before Bridgegate - a story that Democrats stoked for better than a year and that drove the governor's poll numbers down, down, down," said Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Maurice Carroll in a statement. "Even four out of 10 of his fellow Republicans want him to pull the plug."

The poll also finds 55 percent of state voters don't like the way the governor is doing the job at home,compared with 39 percent who support his work, his lowest grade ever, according to the Quinnipiac.

The findings also show, voters are split on their support of the governor:
  •  36 - 57 percent for handling the economy and jobs;
  • 35 - 56 percent for handling the state budget;
  • 36 - 55 percent for handling education.
"How's he doing in Trenton? Terrible. A rock-bottom overall rating on job performance and negative numbers on how he handles schools, the budget and the economy and jobs," Carroll said.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percent.

Christie will not appear in tonight's prime-time debate on Fox Business because he has not averaged 2.5 percent in recent national polls.

 “I’m just going to keep being who I am,” he says.

Christie says he’s gotten more donations since he got bumped, since supporters think he’s gotten a “raw deal."

Christie will appear in “undercard” debate with Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal and Rick Santorum.
