The Hillary Clinton campaign is not worrying about the prospect of Vice President Joe Biden joining the Democratic presidential field, says Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri.
"We'll let him make his decision," Palmieri said Sunday on CNN's
"Reliable Sources."
"However hard it is to secure the Democratic nomination is however hard it is," she said. "We have no illusions – we never thought that this was going to be easy. There's a lot of views in the Democratic Party, and we'll be prepared to handle whatever comes our way."
Palmieri said the Clintons and the campaign have "a great deal of love" and "a lot of respect" for Biden.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that Biden was urged to run by his son Beau, who died in May at age 46. Biden has said he will make a decision by late summer or early fall.
The Biden decision is said to be based at least partly on Clinton's low ratings in trustworthiness, but Palmieri told CNN's Brian Stelter that the campaign sees it differently.
"I don't feel that level of discomfort. I don't see a lot of evidence of it," she said. "I see Hillary Clinton leading, beating every Republican in most national polls, the vast majority of national polls."
